Poetry and Music

Welcome to my poetry corner! This includes my journey of blending words with music. I hope you enjoy the melodies that accompany my verses as much as I enjoyed creating them.

THE VOICE THAT MAY NOT SPEAK WORDS

WE JUST FORGOT TO LOOK The galaxies keep turning in a dance we cannot hear, while spring comes back from winter as it has for countless years. A tiny green shoot pushes through the darkness of the ground, and trees put on their colours without making any sound. [Full Chorus] Why is it so hard to believe the miracles we see? We seem to look right past them and overlook the mystery. Is it that there are so many; that we cannot take it in Or that human kind is blinded by an overload of spin. [Verse 2] A bird arrives in brilliant blue, a flash of red and gold, and music finds a hidden place that words alone can't hold. How does a melody teach us? How does sorrow learn to sing? How does a weary human heart still dare to hope for spring? [Full Chorus] Why is it so hard to believe the miracles we see? We seem to look right past them and overlook the mystery. Is it that there are so many; that we cannot take it in Or that human kind is blinded by an overload of spin. [Bridge, softly] And then a baby comes along ... so fragile, small and new ... and somehow all the world stands still knowing what is true. We hold that little miracle and catch our breath and say, “Where did this new life come from ... that warms our heart today. [Bells and violin in brief interlude] [Final Full Chorus] Why is it so hard to believe when wonder's all around? My friend, the mystery is not that God cannot be found— For we can see him in the morning, in the stars, the trees, the rain, in the heart that keeps on hoping and dares to love again. Why is it so hard to believe when every day we see a thousand quiet miracles we never thought to name? Maybe faith is simply learning to open up our eyes— and then we'll see the sacred has been here the whole time. [Quiet Outro] The sacred has been here the whole time... The sacred has been here the whole time. We just forgot to call it wonder. We just forgot to look. Yes, we just forgot to look.

MAY ALL THE EARTH REJOICE May God be gracious, with His light, And let His face shine on us, bright. May all the earth behold His ways, And trust his guidance through our days. For You are holy, strong, and true, And all creation hopes in You. Chorus May all the peoples praise You, God, May all the earth rejoice! You guide the nations with Your love, you hear the people's voice. In times of harvest, You're our blessing; In times of want, You see us through. When we are brought down to our knees, [strong and joyful] We find our strength in You. Verse 2 You touch the nations with your grace With truth and justice in fear's place. You hear the cries of those who weep, And help the brokenhearted sleep. As a hen gathers her chicks with care, You guide us to your house of prayer. Chorus May all the peoples praise You, God, May all the earth rejoice! You guide the nations with Your love, you hear the people's voice. In times of harvest, You're our blessing; In times of want, You see us through. When we are brought down to our knees, We find our strength in You. Verse 3 Let every nation find Your path to peace, Let hatred fade and love increase. May justice flow, may mercy light the day, May hearts of courage rise and show the way. From every land, let songs of gladness rise, may people find a hope that never dies. Bridge You are our refuge, You are our might, Our hope in darkness, our morning light. Your love is deeper than our fears can go, Your grace sustains us, Your goodness flows. One earth, one family, beneath Your skies, Let our song of praise to You arise! Chorus May all the peoples praise You, God, May all the earth rejoice! You guide the nations with Your love, you hear the people's voice. In times of harvest, You're our blessing; In times of want, You see us through. With grateful hearts and voices raised, All praise belongs to You! Repeat May all the peoples praise You, God, May all the earth rejoice! You guide the nations with Your love, you hear the people's voice. In times of harvest, You're our blessing; In times of want, You see us through. When we are brought down to our knees, We find our strength in You.

DANCING AT SIXTY YEARS First, thank our feet for carrying us through, our hands and our hearts for all that they do, our spines that stood tall whenever they could, And for each of loving just as we should. For sixty long years, through the storms and the sun, Through the waltz and the salsa, we've danced just as one. And though we've missed steps and gone left and not right, We've somehow kept dancing our way through the night. Chorus So dance with me, darling, just one more time, Your hand resting lightly and gently in mine. We've stumbled, we've swayed, we've laughed at the view, And I've always found home when I'm dancing with you. Let the years turn around us, let the old music play, We're still learning these steps now our hair's silver-grey. For the secret, dear love, isn't knowing the dance— It's still saying yes when you're given the chance. Verse 2 For love isn't always a grand, sweeping show, Or roses and diamonds or promises we know. It's the quiet turn to me, the touch of your hand, The wordless assurance that you understand. It's remembering the steps when mine disappear, Being steady beside me when the floor isn't clear. It's the arm that holds fast when the whole world tilts wide, And the comfort of knowing you're there by my side. Chorus So dance with me, darling, just one more time, Your hand resting lightly and gently in mine. We've stumbled, we've swayed, we've laughed at the view, And I've always found home when dancing with you. Let the years turn around us, let the old music play, We're still learning these steps now our hair's silver-grey. For the secret, dear love, isn't knowing the dance— It's still saying yes when you're given the chance. Verse 3 So I'll loosen my scarf and step out on the floor, There's a lifetime of dancing and more to explore. Let the mirror keep quiet; it doesn't know best, We've earned every wrinkle and every small rest. And if one of us falters, or can't find the beat, We'll take it more slowly and shuffle our feet. For sixty years on, there's one truth I can say: I'd still choose you, love, for the dance every day. [soft and warm musical interlude] Final Chorus So dance with me, darling, just one more time, Your hand resting lightly and gently in mine. We've stumbled, we've swayed, we've laughed our way through, And I've always found home when dancing with you. Let the years turn around us, let the old music play, There's no need to hurry; just rest in the sway. For the finest of dances, the truest romance, Is a lifetime of choosing to give love a chance. [soft, but triumphant] One, two, three … one, two, three … Sixty years dancing ... and still you and me.
