There is a kind of peace that doesn’t depend on everything going right
Updated: Apr 2
There is a kind of peace that doesn’t wait until life finally settles down.
It doesn’t wait for the diagnosis to change,
or the relationship to mend,
or the future to become clear and cooperative.
It is quieter than that. Less dependent. Really … independent of outcomes.
It is a peace you can count on in anxiety.

We are taught, in so many subtle ways, that peace is the reward for resolution.
That when things line up ... when the right doors open, when the hard season passes ... then we can exhale.
But what if peace was never meant to be a reward?
What if it is something far more rooted ... something that begins not in your circumstances, but in your understanding of who you are?
The day comes when you begin to see that you are not just the sum of your roles, your history, or your current struggles.
You are not only the one managing, fixing, striving, or holding everything together.
There is a deeper identity underneath all of that.
A truer one.
A sense of where you are rooted.
And when that begins to take shape in you ... not just as an idea, but as a quiet knowing ... something shifts.
You stop looking to the outer world to tell you whether you are okay.
Because you begin to understand … you already are.
Not because everything is right,
but because something essential about you has been revealed.
Scripture speaks of this in a way that is both simple and profound:
“The kingdom of God is within you.” Luke 17:21
And:
“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds…” Philippians 4:7
Not a peace that makes sense. Not a peace that can be explained by improved conditions.
A peace that transcends ... that rises above the logic of “things are going well, therefore I feel calm.”
This kind of peace comes from a different source altogether.
It is a bit like discovering that you are not on the surface of the ocean, constantly moved and reshaped by every wind and wave …
but you are anchored to something deep beneath the waves.
On the surface, there can be chaos. Unexpected storms. Currents you did not choose.
But beneath that, far beneath that, there is a stillness that is not touched by any of it.
When you live only from your material understanding ... the surface,
peace will always feel fragile.
But when you begin to live from the depth ... from that place where your identity is rooted in something eternal, something held by God;
peace becomes … steady.
Not perfect. Not constant in feeling. But always available.
Understanding who you really are is not an act of self-invention.
It is an act of remembering.
Remembering that you are not alone in this haphazard world;
that your life is not mere chance nor is it floating, unanchored.
That there is a presence beside you always... quiet, patient, enduring ... that does not rise and fall with your circumstances.
And this is where the spiritual changes everything.
Because peace is no longer something you chase;
it is a knowing you return to, always accessible.
So if life is going crazy right now … if things are not going the way you hoped …
you have not been disqualified from peace.
You may simply be standing at the edge of discovering a deeper kind.
One that does not depend on everything going right ...
but on your deep knowing that you are being quietly, unshakably … held ... anchored
By the God of the universe.
